Discover the delights of Kawau Bay and the Maurangi East coastline as we take you on a walk around the rocks and along the beaches, all the way from Sandspit to Martins Bay. This trail covers a gorgeous section of our coast and allows you to see it all from angles not usually appreciated.
We'll start at picturesque Sandspit with its beautiful headlands, sparkling waters and tradtional baches. Then we follow the coast to secluded Brick Bay and on to the huge tidal flats of Snells Beach where early settlers dug for kauri gum.
Onward then to Algies Bay, over rocks and sand and mud, but ears open for the tui in the native bush that droops down over the trail. Lots of flora and fauna to spot here, and lots of fun beachside house spotting too.
Then it's on our way to Scandrett Regional Park with its gorgeous hillsides, historic buildings and sandy beaches. We will stop here for lunch and time to take in the peace and quiet of this beautiful park. Then it's up and over to Martins Bay where we complete the walk with a swim, if you feel so inclined.
We will probaly have to climb over a few fallen trees, and get a bit muddy, damp and salty, but it will be great fun. We'll stop in some lovely places for snacks and time to take in the surrounds and be in the moment.
Your guides, Shelley Trotter and Gary Heaven, are long time locals and will regale you with stories of the local area as you go, so it will be a walk to remember.
