Gibbs Farm Sculpture Trail
November, 9am. Duration: 6.25 hours.
$45.00 - includes bus and gourmet picnic lunch.
Limited to 100
The day starts with a bus trip from Warkworth through the rural countryside to the rolling farmland known as Gibbs Farm, bordering the immense and historic Kaipara Harbour.
We walk the landscape between huge sculptures spread over 16km of hills, valleys and flats and marvel at the vision of not only the artists, but also of Alan Gibbs, who commissioned them. With the assistance of his son-in-law Noel Lane, Gibbs has made a total commitment to open-brief commissioning of major site specific works from world renowned artists including Graham Bennett, Chris Booth, Daniel Buren, Bill Culbert, Neil Dawson, Marijke de Goey, Andy Goldsworthy, Ralph Hotere, Anish Kapoor, Sol LeWitt, Len Lye, Russell Moses, Peter Nicholls, Eric Orr, Tony Oursler, George Rickey, Peter Roche, Richard Serra, Kenneth Snelson, Richard Thompson, Leon van den Eijkel and Zhan Wang. This is a collection of permanent private commissions of a scale rarely seen anywhere in the world.
Access to the farm is very restricted. To get the full benefit of art works we will walk most of the park and so a reasonable level of fitness is required.
