This walk/kayak combo gives you the opportunity to experience our new regional park at Te Muri, and discover the stunning bays and headlands of the Mahurangi, with commanding views of the Hauraki Gulf. The area is rich in Maori and early settler history, which can be seen as we walk.

The walk begins at Cudlip Point and then descends to cross the Te Muri stream. You will get wet crossing the stream so bring a towel if you need to dry your feet.

We will stop on the other side and look at the historic cemetery with local Maori and early settler graves. Then we follow the estuary inland and climb to the trig where on a clear day you can see the Coromandel and Great Barrier Island.

After that, it's down hill to the beach and across the saddle at the southern end of Te Muri to the Puhoi River entrance. We will pause here for our picnic lunch and wait for the tide. Our hosts at Puhoi River Canoes will meet us and brief everyone for the paddle upriver to Puhoi township. We will be in double kayaks and the paddle takes approx. 2 hours at a leisurely pace.

Once we reach Puhoi, there should be time for a quick beer at the famous pub, if that takes your fancy.

This walk has great variety of beaches, headlands, bush, stunning vistas and of course a wonderful paddle on the Puhoi River.
