This is your opportunity to experience the trail around Mita Bay, Sullivans Bay and our new regional park at Te Muri, all the gems of Mahurangi West. Discover the stunning bays and headlands of the Mahurangi, with commanding views of the Hauraki Gulf. The area is rich in Māori and early settler history, which can be seen as we walk.
The walk begins with a descent to pretty Mita Bay, then up and over the hill to Sullivans. From there, it’s on to Cudlip Point and we descend to cross the Te Muri stream. You might get wet crossing the stream so bring a towel if you need to dry your feet.
We will stop on the other side and look at the historic cemetery with local Māori and early settler graves. Then we follow the estuary inland and climb to the trig where on a clear day you can see the Coromandel and Great Barrier Island.
After that, it's down hill to the beach and across the saddle at the southern end of Te Muri to the Puhoi River entrance. We’ll take our time and enjoy the views, and stop for snacks, lunch and stories along the way – there’s no rush.
This walk has great variety of beaches, headlands, bush and stunning vistas so we’ll look forward to showing you around.
